SAINT CLARE OF ASSISI
0811 Virgin, Mother of the Poor Clares (Feast)
Entrance Antiphon
This day a brilliant star rises, for today Saint Clare, the poor handmaid of the Lord, is glorified in heaven.
The Gloria in excelsis (Glory to God in the highest) is said.
Collect
O God, who in your mercy led Saint Clare to a love of poverty, grant, through her intercession, that, following Christ in poverty of spirit, we may merit to contemplate you one day in the heavenly Kingdom. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
See Franciscan Lectionary, no. 43*.
Prayer over the Offerings
Lord, receive our lowly worship in memory of Saint Clare the virgin. Through this perfect sacrifice make us always burn with devout and holy love in your presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Preface: Our Holy Mother Clare of Assisi
Father all powerful and ever living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks. You wondrously inflamed your servant Clare to follow like Francis in the footsteps of your Son. To him you espoused her mystically through perpetual fidelity and love. Raising her to the summit of seraphic perfection through the highest poverty. You made her the mother of countless virgins.
Through him the choirs of angels and all the powers of heaven praise and worship your glory. May our voices blend with theirs as we join in the unending hymn of praise:
Communion Antiphon [ Cf. Jn 14:23 ]
Whoever loves me will be loved by my Father. We shall come to him and make our home with him.
Prayer after Communion
Lord God, may this Eucharist renew our courage and strength. May we remain close to you, like Saint Clare, by accepting in our lives a share in the sufferings of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you for ever and ever.
